A hard to find complete original pictorial souvenir album containing 24 separate
photographs of the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition American Pacific and Oriental
Fair, c. 1905, which celebrated the 100 year centennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
This was a large fair, running from June to October, with visitors from all over
the world. Online reference information states that: While this Exposition was
not officially considered a World's Fair by the Bureau of International Expositions,
it is often informally described as such.
The album includes 24 black and white images, as well as one additional cover photo,
showing views of the fairgrounds and buildings, as well as statues of William Clark
and Meriweather Lewis. Many of the photos include men, women and children in period
dress. There are two photos of the Oregon Forestry Building, one of which is a very
rare interior view. Sadly this important landmark was destroyed by fire in 1964.
We
are unable to include pictures of every image, so following please find a brief description,
as taken directly from title imprinted on each image. Note: some of the photographs
are actually split photos including two separate images, indicated with; / symbol.

The album and individual pages are dark olive green in color and
each is punched with three holes. Inserted through these holes and binding the
booklet together is what appears to be the original green cording.
The album is in very nice condition. Front and back covers show some slightly rough
edges/minor abrasions, as well as some corner rounding/curling and minor scuffs.
There is also a small, 2 x 1 & 1/4 inch area on front cover that looks like someone
peeled off a label/sticker. This does not effect the integrity of cover, just removed
a very small amount/thin layer of paper; a fairly minor cosmetic issue.
Interior album pages are in extremely nice condition, with only two small corner
bends, which do not affect actual images whatsoever. We do not see any stains to
either cover or interior pages.
The images are completely free of bends, folds, tears, etc. They are attached to
the album pages with a tiny dot of adhesive and some of the images show a minor darkening
at this point, otherwise all photos are free of stains, blems, etc. While we are
not experts on antique ephemera and photographs we feel this 100+ year old album
is in considerably good condition.
