This antique silver brooch is so charming! Centered in the midst of each of the
three pansy blossoms is the sweet, smiling face of a beautiful young lady.
This pin is original old Art Nouveau jewelry, c. apx 1890 - 1910.
As was common during the period, the brooch is formed in two pieces. The back is
hallmarked; Silverine, which was a silver metal often used for watch cases due to
excellent durability and luster. There is a crease on the back, however since the
brooch is formed in two pieces it does not affect the front. This is a minor, strictly
cosmetic issue and does not impact the integrity of the brooch at all. Nice substantial
C clasp and pin appear to be original and both function well.
The front of the brooch is not marked, but may be sterling silver; it does tarnish
and polish exactly like sterling.
The charming Pansy flower and face design remains amazingly clear, defined and free
of damage. These original old pieces are rather rare and hard to find, but when
located often show serious wear and/or dents to the faces. This brooch does show
some minor smoothing to the finest detail, but the ladies faces are free of dents,
even their noses. It remains in extremely nice antique estate condition.
Authentic, original Art Nouveau jewelry, especially featuring this unique and desirable
period design is quite difficult to find. Although we see no makers mark, similar
pieces were made by Unger Brothers and Kerr.
