A very nice vintage, Edwardian - 1920's, photo locket, with transitional Art Deco
aesthetics.
Many the design elements are Deco, including the overall shape, certainly the interesting
bail, as well as some of the decoration, but note the Art Nouveau scrolls highlighting
opposing corners suggesting the locket was made during the Edwardian era of the late
teens, or possibly the early 20's. If you love lockets this example is very attractive
and a little out of the ordinary.
It is yellow gold in color, with a slightly rosy hue. Probably gold filled, but
higher quality, due to additional 12 karat gold shell, as hallmarked. No other marks
found.
The frame for the image is oval in shape and still retains the clear celluloid
or lucite (?) photo protector. To insert photograph you just pull the middle section
forward, place the image inside and push frame back into place.
This is a very well made locket pendant , with a substantial hinge, nice quality
clasp, solid, decorative self bail and very pretty engine turned design inside front
and back covers.
It is very nice all original condition, with no dings or dents. Gold remains very
shiny, with just extremely minor surface scratches, mainly to back.
The locket has
never been monogrammed or otherwise personalized.
A very nice, early locket, somewhat
different than the typical Deco jewelry.
