A very rare and hard to find matching set of eight original antique Victorian sterling silver John Wendt large size ice cream spoons, c. 1870. These spoons have never been monogrammed, or otherwise inscribed.
The pattern is quite ornate, with a rather Japanese ~ Japanesque quality.
The bowls are very fancy and still retain quite a lot of the satin finish gilt vermeil.
These antique spoons are in really outstanding estate condition. They appear to have rarely been used. Bowl edges are good, handles are straight and pattern detail remains amazingly quite defined. Although the gold wash has likely lightened somewhat over time, it remains overall quite even and consistent.
Wendt flatware pieces in general are quite hard to find and entire sets of specialty spoons such as these, especially in this exceptional condition, are really rare.
