The colors in this vintage Whiting and Davis, top of the line, El-Sah Dresden mesh
purse are very attractive: silvery gray mesh, enameled with bright pink, sapphire
blue, and soft green, accented with a beautiful gold gilt frame and gold chain link
handle, c. 1920's.
The frame is decorated in an ornate floral and scroll motif, with kiss style closure
and fancy link chain.
The original ~ El-Sah ~ hang tag remains affixed inside, however W & D tag is missing.
The high quality mesh is fine and smooth; no lining.
This purse is in very nice estate condition. I examined the links with a magnifying
glass and believe that every single link remains securely in place around entire
frame perimeter. Links are also tight and very close up around the hinges. There
is definitely no large gap between hinge and links, as is commonly seen on old mesh
bags. Additionally, I see no loose or missing links to body, or fringe.
Enamel remains bright, as does both inside and outside of gilt frame. I see only
one tiny dark area to frame; a minute section of the scroll decoration, near clasp.
Hinges operate very well, as does clasp, which aligns well and snaps securely shut,
with frame perfectly aligned. All parts appear to be original.
The El Sah handbags were Whiting and Davis' top of the line and that certainly shows
in the excellent quality, fine construction and unique flapper era aesthetics of
this early bag.
