Love, love, love the wonderful early French metallic brocades! This beautiful vintage
example features an Art Deco multi-floral motif in a really striking color combination,
including coral, blue, mauve and green on a gold lame ground, accented with dark
bronze metallic cord trim, c. teens - 1920's.
The frame and clasp, both of which are
pierced in a floral and foliage motif, appear to be solid brass.
Inside frame, near
hinge is hallmarked: Made In France
Purse interior is lined in a rich cream silk satin, also accented with gold metallic
trim.. There are two inside pockets, one contains original matching cream silk coin
purse with kiss closure and luxurious kid leather lining. The other contains a small
coordinating comb, with a crown insignia. (overlooked photographing)
Exterior of bag features back glove strap handle.
This handbag is in very nice estate condition. Interior lining is sound and remains
perfectly attached to frame. There are several small lipstick marks at very bottom,
(see fourth image) and two light, very small soil marks on opposing corners, otherwise
lining remains quite clean and nice. No rips, tears, snags or other problems. There
is a light perfume fragrance to interior.
Coin purse is also very nice, with just
a few small light smudges to exterior fabric near clasp and slight wear to kiss style
clasp.
Purse exterior is very nice and free of stains. There is some very light wear to
brocade at a couple of tiny areas, but you must look very carefully to detect. Please
see last two images for close up & details. Collectors of these wonderful old textile
purses know that this is not uncommon and is actually quite minor on this bag.
To
open the purse you just push back on the clasp; it operates very well, as do the
hinges.
Metallic brocade French bags are certainly becoming harder and harder to find and
this particular handbag features a delicious, very French Deco print in really attractive
colors, on a wonderful gold lame ground.
In addition, it is rather unusual in that
the frame and clasp are formed of decoratively pierced solid brass. Overall, a very
interesting, collectable vintage French handbag.
