Divine antique or very early vintage silk and metallic ruffle edge passementerie
trim ribbon, likely French in origin and found unused on the original roll with paper
separating wraps, c. Edwardian era 1910 - Flapper period 1920s. Sold in one yard
A high quality, finely woven ribbon in a marvelous soft muted shade of blue / green
/ gray that is sometimes referred to as duck or robin egg; a color palette that
covers many hues of blue and green from light to dark, with this example being on
the lighter side, leaning towards the grey. The exact shade was difficult to capture
accurately and on our monitors the ribbon in the above images appear to have slightly
less of the subtle bluish hue than actual, with the last image being closest to the
It is double sided ribbon, so both sides appear virtually the same. Perfect for all
kinds of applications from clothing, millinery and sewing, as well as craft items
such as ribbon roses and ribbon work, etc. Later versions of this type of trim
were often made of rayon, but this is one of the older all silk examples, with a
fine metallic accent just above the lettuce edge. Wonderful for ribbonwork and similar
needlework, as well as doll dressing, etc.
This vintage embellishment is in exceptionally nice estate condition. The entire
length was carefully removed from the roll and inspected, with only a few pinholes
found. Cosmetically, some subtle variation in the color of the fine metallic accent
was noted, with some intermittent sections having somewhat more patina than others.
Quite subtle and certainly not unexpected or inappropriate for trim of this type
and age. No other condition or appearance issues noted. The trim is very strong,
supple and stable and easily passed the standard "tug and pull" test. Color is consistent.
If you collect antique and vintage ribbons and passementerie trims this unused NOS
silk and metallic ruffled embellishment is perfect for clothing, millinery, boudoir
vanity items, French Fashion & Bebe doll dressing, pillows, soft furnishings, interior
design, period restorations and other projects.
