This antique thimble is a light Rose or Pink gold in color and features a fancy grape
and leaf motif decorating the wide band, as well as the lower edge, c. mid to late
1800's.
The thimble is not marked as to maker, material or size, or if it was, it is no longer
discernable. To determine gold purity we acid tested using a high quality stone,
thus avoiding damage to thimble and determined it is at least 14K, likely a little
higher. This result was confirmed via a similar independent test.
Comparing the thimble to others that are marked as to size, we estimate this to
be a size 10 or possibly slightly larger.
This sewing ~ quilting item is in very nice antique estate condition; free of holes
and dents, possibly just the slightest out of round at base. Fancy engraved and
chased pattern design remains quite defined. Ornate period script hand executed
monogram appears to be; LMF or TMF.
A very nice early 14 Karat Rose Gold thimble.
