This vintage hand made sterling silver thimble was made in Taxco, Mexico, where silver
has been manufactured for hundreds and hundreds of years.
This vintage thimble dates
to apx. c. 1950 - 60’s. It is quite large and features a very nice applied repeating
stylized floral and foliage design, accented with fine punch work and applied scrolls.
Please note the quality of the applied work. Unlike many Mexican thimbles, especially
modern (1970’s to present) the applied wire work on this thimble is very fine, even
and symmetrical. The cap is also very well done. Additionally this vintage thimble
has very nice, well executed and rather unique hand punch work decoration, which
can be seen around the lower section, as well as the cap.
The thimble is clearly marked inside near lower rim as to origin and material, however
we do not see an indication as to size, but estimate it to be apx. a 10.
This sewing ~ quilting item is in exceptionally nice vintage estate condition. It
is free of holes, dents or any other kind of problems. The fancy applied and punch
work pattern design remains very defined. It has never been monogrammed.
A very
nice, large, older hand wrought sterling silver thimble.
