Unused condition antique trims are rather scarce, so we are pleased to offer this
exceptional and unusual wide antique passementerie embellishment, which likely originated
in France, c. 1880 - 1910.
The trim was crafted in two similar, but subtly different
shades of blue, which adds contrast and visual appeal. Unfortunately we had difficulty
capturing the exact shades, so on our monitors, while the 2nd and 3rd close up images
above show a close match, the actual colors are subtly/slightly darker. (please keep
in mind individual monitors render different results)
The upper portion of the trim
features a rich cornflower blue silk floss, interwoven with a very fine gold and
black metallic braid. The lower portion of the trim features a slightly darker,
silky slate blue, intricately patterned soutache cord, highlighted with large, heavy
gold and black metallic braided medallions. Aesthetically creating a very substantial
and impressive combination of colors, patterns and textures.
This trim is in extremely
nice antique estate condition. It is very high quality new old stock and has never
been used; remaining wrapped on old pink and gray heavy stock cardboard, appropriate
for the period. The silk and soutache cord appear strong and stable, with rich,
consistent color throughout. The metallic braid appears equally nice, with wonderful,
sparkly, rich antique gold patina that has not turned black in color, like is commonly
found on antique metallic lace and trims. Obviously well cared for and well stored;
we see no problems or issues.
If you collect antique and vintage ribbons and passementerie
trims this is a very nice long unused length of unusual French silk metallic embellishment,
certainly a more rare example, perfect for clothes, millinery, boudoir vanity items,
French Fashion & Bebe doll dressing and other project / designer uses.
