We were fortunate to purchase a group of unused vintage German sheets, as well as some other fine European textiles from the original family. All of the textiles date between apx. 1900 - 1940.
This c. 1930 linen sheet is one of six that we are offering individually here on our site.
It has never been used. Please note; Our image shows the sheet with a label, but this particular sheet, although it is identical to the others with a label, DOES NOT retain a label, however it will be sent with a color copy of original. Roughly translated the label states that the sheet has a ~gradually amplified center~, which indicates an increasing thread count graduating towards the middle, so it will wear better and last longer, a unique vintage feature of high quality period sheets. The label also states that the Rough Cut size is 150 x 240 cm, which we have converted to inches above. Due to a substantial hem and fine drawn work hemstitching the actual length is apx. 93 inches, with width remaining as stated.
The sheet is in extremely nice, unused estate condition. Please remember that this particular sheet does not have a label, however it will be sent with a color copy of original. It is not pure white in color, but rather slightly off-white, however we expect laundering will lighten somewhat. It is crisp, medium weight linen, with quite a lot of texture and retains original polish. It was apparently stored very well, because it smells new and is free of stains and age/storage related darkening along fold lines, etc. After unfolding all six sheets the only thing noted was some natural slubs in the fabric, typical and expected of linen, as well as some specks here and there that may be dust or something that worked out of the fibers over the years, which for the most part seems to brush right off, however laundering may be required to resolve completely.
Due to the many different uses for old linen sheets, including upholstery, drapery, pillow and/or covers and craft projects to mention a few, we are offering each sheet individually to allow buyers to purchase exactly what suits their particular need.
