A very fine antique handmade American Renaissance Battenburg needlelace centerpiece, table mat or doily, dating to the turn of the century Edwardian era, c. 1900 - 1920s.
This lace centerpiece was hand made, by an extremely skilled needle worker demonstrating excellent workmanship in an aesthetically pleasing design, with tight, intense needlework and a variety of filling stitches.
The mat is in excellent antique condition, presenting very clean, white and completely free of stains, spots, etc. It is well constructed and very symmetrical in design and shape, with no noted breaks, holes, openings, or other issues.
This needle lace center piece was acquired from the same estate as the set of twelve antique American Renaissance Battenburg placemats that at the time of this listing were available and listed separately on our site. (see link, lower left) This example is extremely similar to the placemats in material, general style, as well as construction and was very likely hand made by the same talented lace maker who completely the amazing set of place mats. All of these pieces really appear to have been used very little and were evidently cherished and well cared for.
A very well made, and aesthetically pleasing American Renaissance Battenburg table mat, extensively and densely hand worked and obviously created by a skilled lace maker. A really fine period antique centerpiece that would certainly make an exceptionally nice contribution to a discerning lace or textile collection.
