Antique French metallic lace boudoir, vanity and sewing items were made in France during the 1800 and 1900's, with the height of popularity around the turn of the century through the Edwardian and Roaring 20's eras. These articles are becoming somewhat scarce, so we are always happy to find nice period examples.

This particular rather large size vanity, boudoir or dresser box is elaborately decorated with at least four different types of antique metallic lace and passementerie trims, on an attractive pink ground.  Pretty multi-color silk ribbon rosettes accent the hinged top.

This dressing table accessory is in very nice antique estate condition, quite well made, solid and sturdy.  Unfortunately in our images the metallic lace appears much darker than the actual bronze/gold shade, but we find no damage to any of the lace, just a small/minor 1/8 inch separation where lace edges were joined together near lid edge, likely due to age/shrinkage.  Some wear to the ombre red, blue and yellow ribbon rosette roses and green leaves.  A small amount of powder residue remains inside box, however this would likely improve with cleaning.  Mirror, edged with nice metallic lace passementerie trim,  remains firmly attached, with some expected light fogging.   We are pleased to note that the pink fabric appears strong and free of distress, even the hinged area appears good, with no shredding or wear, a common issue with this type of old box.

Nice antique French lace vanity boudoir items are becoming harder to find, with boxes and caskets especially desirable.  This is a very useful, pretty and feminine item, perfect for French chateau and cottage decor.
