A beautiful period lace, silk satin and ribbon rosette boudoir bandeau ~ breakfast, morning, leisure or lounge cap, c. 1917 -
1920's.
This band style of headpiece was first seen in the late teens and became very popular during the Flapper Era / Jazz Age.
Multiple layers of fine cream bobbin lace, reseau tulle net and hand made filet lace form the headdress body, which is further decorated with long matching peach silk satin ribbon ties. Three multi color silk ribbon rosettes passementerie trim adorn center.
This elegant boudoir bandeau is in exceptionally nice estate condition. I did laundered it as the lace was quite dark due to age/storage. As you can hopefully see in the images the headdress is now fresh and clean, free of spots, stains, etc. Careful examination revealed no rips, tears, holes, distress, etc. Neither the silk or the lace shows signs of weakness or other issues.
Several of our reference materials note that by 1910 boudoir ~ breakfast hats had become so popular that they were being worn at other times of the day, including evening, these then being called theater caps. Apparently little differentiated the two, except theater caps were possibly somewhat fancier, or with more delicate lace, etc. All have become very collectible.
The bandeau style flapper era headpieces are becoming quite difficult to find, especially fine condition, fancy examples like this attractive lacy confection.
